Tell us about your visit

Tell us about your visit and what you think is wrong. Upload your bill if you have one - if not, we can request it from your dentist. After that, Slash handles the rest.

We analyze your bill for errors and overcharges

40% of dental bills have errors. Slash's AI systems look for upcodings and miscodings, and compare prices against our proprietary benchmarks to find out if you're getting overcharged.

We negotiate with your dentist or insurer, on your behalf

Even if you know what's wrong, negotiating is overwhelming and complex. Slash handles all communication with your provider or insurer, negotiating to get you the price you deserve. We only involve you when we have a legitimate offer to reduce your bill.

You save money

Slash works to get you the most savings possible. You only pay if we successfully reduce your bill.

Why Slash

We advocate for you.

Dental care isn't like the rest of healthcare.

Unlike health insurance, dental insurance won't help you pay for more than common preventive care, and the dental industry lacks many of the patient protections that other industries have. This means you're much more likely to be overcharged or overdiagnosed.

Our team knows how to fight for your interests and get you the savings you deserve.

40%

According to the American Dental Association, up to 40% of dental bills have errors, including coding mistakes, mischarges, or billing for services not rendered.

67%

2/3 of dentists say that dental care is too expensive as it is.

$1,500

Dental insurance stops paying after ~$1,500. Beyond this amount, you have to pay everything out of pocket. Plans aren't designed to help you pay for much more than common preventive care.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost?
Slash makes money only if we successfully reduce your bill. Generally, we take a 20% fee on savings secured for you, capped at $250. For example, if we negotiate $150 in savings from your dentist, we get $30. However, if we negotiate $6,000 in savings off a major procedure, you'll only owe us $250. We charge $1 to your card up front to hold until your bill is resolved, which is then either (a) modified to reflect the lesser of 20% or $250, or (b) returned if we do not successfully reduce your bill.
What makes Slash Dental different?
Most patient advocates charge steep hourly fees and run entirely manually. This makes it impractical to review and negotiate all but the most complex and expensive bills. We combine technology, proprietary data, and legal expertise to make this service available for every patient. Our goal is for every patient to ensure that every bill they receive is accurate and fair.

Unlike most healthcare technology companies, we are uniquely patient-focused -- meaning we only advocate on behalf of patients and only make money by winning savings for patients. We do not provide any services to any other companies in the dental care space, including providers, insurers, and debt servicers (all of whom we negotiate against on behalf of patients). The industry has plenty of companies helping providers and insurers optimize their revenue, but patients are mostly left to fend for themselves, and we want to change that.

We're also solely focused on the dental industry, which is traditionally underserved versus other medical providers when it comes to experimental or new support technologies in billing and insurance.
Is my data secure?
Yes. Slash is continuously monitoring and evaluating industry best practices to implement in our company processes and secure your data. We strive to ask for no more information and data than is necessary to deliver successful relief to the patients we represent. Slash does not, and never will, sell your data to third parties.
How long does the process take?
The length of any negotiation over a dental bill is variable and reflects complexity of the dispute. Your provider's timeliness, involvement of third parties (such as insurers), and the state where your provider is located are just some examples that can affect a negotiation's timeline. Much like a lawyer in settlement talks, we strive to do the heavy lifting (such as communications, research, and diligence) and bring you into the conversation only when we have a legitimate offer from your dental provider to reduce your bill. For complex cases, we may request more input from you.
What are these forms I have to sign to use Slash Dental?
In order for us to speak with your dental provider and relevant third parties (like your insurer) about your dental bill, we need legal permission to negotiate on your behalf. That comes through two legal agreements you sign when you sign up for Slash Dental: The first agreement gives us “Permission to Negotiate” on your behalf with third parties -- it applies to us and sets out what you want us to do (get you lower prices) and what we can do to achieve that (e.g., talk to your dentist, use proprietary data, etc.). The second agreement is a “HIPAA Privacy Release,” which applies to your dental provider. It gives them permission to speak with us about the dental bill at issue and any procedures or diagnoses relevant to that bill.
I don't have a copy of my bill. Can I still use Slash Dental?
Yes! If you don't have a copy of your bill, we can request it from your dental provider. Just fill out our case form and we'll reach out to your provider for your documents.
Where is Slash Dental available?
Slash Dental is currently available in all US markets, although our expertise for each market is variable as we refine processes, procure new data sources, and make relationships with relevant practices. At this time, we are most effective at serving patients in southern New England, New York City, Philadelphia, and Chicago; however, we can still execute integral Slash Dental functions and effectively negotiate throughout the country as we expand our data sources and relationships into new markets beyond these five.
Why does Slash Dental exist?
Max and Ben (our founders) both experienced the pain of negotiating dental bills firsthand. After spending hours on research and communicating with their respective dental offices, they realized that the system by design requires patients to be near-insane to get any relief from erroneous bills or overchargings. There had to be another way to win savings and price transparency for dental patients: Max and Ben figured they could leverage new technology with proprietary data and legal expertise to make negotiating dental bills as easy as possible.

About Us

Our Mission

Slash Dental is a hassle-free patient advocate that fights for fair and transparent pricing. Our mission is to get every dental patient the best price for their care, without the headache.

Our Story

Our founders, Max and Ben, each had their own painful experiences dealing with dental bills. After spending hours researching & negotiating, we realized you had to be near-insane just to get any relief from an erroneous bill.

The dental industry is complex and fraught with errors, and most of the time it's patients who get the short end of the stick. We think you shouldn't need to be an expert to navigate the gauntlet of dental billing. Given Max's experience as a consumer rights attorney and Ben's technical background, we decided to start Slash - a patient advocate that fights for fair and transparent pricing.
